Shopping for Plastic Surgery can be a tricky business. Without the ability to see the product before making a decision, how do you make the right choice?ย The answer is toย buy into the surgeon’sย integrity, high standards, and rapport with you, his or her prospective patient.
Surgeons certified by the American Board of Plasticย Surgery (ABPS) have excelled in the most rigorous andย demandingย training and examination process that exists for Plastic Surgeons in theย United States. In fact, the ABPS is the only board that recognizes plastic surgeons in this country.ย Certificationย by theย American Board of Plastic Surgery matters and it’s one of theย first things you should ask about. Watch out for doctors without an M.D. after their name, or those that say they are certified inย “cosmetic surgery”ย ย asย that’s notย evenย one of the specialties covered by the American Board ofย Medical Specialties.
Beyond certification, look at the photos of the surgeon’s work and decide if you’d be happy with the outcome, if the person in the “before” photo was you.
When it comes to price, there are a few things to consider. Make sure you’re making an “apples to apples” comparison. For instance, a price quote for liposuction from one doctor may not beย the same as from another, because the cost is highly dependentย on the exact areas to be liposuctioned.ย Second, as we referred to above, you can only compare doctors that are both board-certified by the ABPS, you can go to the ABPS website (abplsurg.org)ย to verify board-certification.
At the Kryger Institute, we never want to lose a patient over price. In fact, we believe that our prices are reasonable and often below the average in ourย community. In many cases, we will price-match as long as the price we are matching is comparing the same procedures and is from a reputable, ABPS board-certified plastic surgeon.
